The Pro-Voice Movement needs to grow far beyond the doors of Exhale’s office and the reach of our after-abortion talkline to truly create a different social climate. It is up to each one of us to spread pro-voice values and develop peaceful leadership practices.

Exhale's programs depend on volunteers, who are valued members of our community. Most volunteer opportunities are based out of our Oakland, California headquarters.

Apply to be an Exhale volunteer counselor here.

Exhale volunteers are people who care deeply about the wellbeing of others and who are motivated by making a meaningful contribution to a more peaceful world. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and range in age from teens to seniors. Ethnically and religiously diverse, volunteers are students, parents, and professionals with full personal lives. At Exhale, they work beside others with shared values and grow as people and changemakers.

Every time you listen without judgment to a loved one who has had a personal experience with abortion, and each time you talk to a friend or loved one about your values of support and respect, you actively shift the culture around abortion. Throughout this website, we provide tools to improve your listening skills and resources to help you make an impact as a pro-voice peacemaker.

With your partnership, we can grow our pro-voice community beyond Exhale so that listening and support for each person’s unique experience with abortion becomes a common practice.

San Francisco Bay Area Opportunities:

We recruit and train volunteers twice a year. Learn more about our After-Abortion Counselor volunteer opportunity here.

Exhale offers women and men who live in the San Francisco Bay Area the opportunity to learn applicable skills, gain hands-on counseling experience and develop leadership through our Counselor Program.  If you’d like to volunteer with Exhale’s after-abortion support programs, we offer training to become a counselor twice a year near our office in Oakland, California. You can find more information about the Counselor Program here.

Nationwide Opportunities:

We are in the early stages of growing a nationwide Pro-Voice Community and we need people just like you: people with a compassionate heart, good ideas and serious initiative. We offer new tools in the Pro-Voice Community section of this web site that you can use to engage with pro-voice practices. Most important: let us know what’s useful! We’re learning together, so share what else you’re looking for and tell us what tools you need to be a pro-voice peacemaker. We know you have great ideas and the commitment to try things out. At Exhale, we give each other room to fail, learn, and grow, and the chance to show your stuff, excel, and reflect.

Exhale is a 501(c)3 organization (EIN/tax ID: 94-3393719)
